Total Place report opportunities

25 Mar 2010 by Karl Hallam

The final report on the Total Place pilots has been released. The headline is the chance of a 'single offer' for the best performing areas. That area will get less money, but more freedom. That really puts the emphasis on delivering better for less.

The examples throughout generally point to indicative savings of better collaboration and more preventative work and point towards the need for leadership more than new powers. There is no obvious mention of the local taxation or democratic models, even though many flag up the democratic primacy of local government.

We will be reading it carefully in the coming days for our work with Local Government Yorkshire and the Humber and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.
